Introducing The Newest Celebrity Body Contouring Ambassador

Introducing Malin Akerman, the first and only Allergan Aesthetics partner to support both CoolSculpting, the number 1 fat reduction treatment, and CoolTone, the latest body contouring treatment used to strengthen, tone, and firm muscles. Akerman, who is well known for her role in the TV show, Billions perfectly fits the Allergan Body Contouring portfolio.

CoolSculpting was a treatment Akerman had been aware of before this opportunity presented itself. She explains how this was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up. Like any other working individual, it can be tough to juggle daily responsibilities while also eating right and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. And although Akerman considers herself an active person, with workouts consisting of pilates, hiking, CrossFit, and cycling, she still felt she couldn’t get rid of her last bit of stubborn fat. “I have some stubborn areas of fat just won’t budge and muscle groups I would like to tone and strengthen,” said Akerman.

When Akerman decided to give both CoolSculpting and CoolTone a try, she was in awe of her results. She stated, “I swear, after the last session even my husband was like, ‘You look great — not that you didn’t before!’ I felt stronger and more toned. It felt like I deserved it after putting in so many years of hard work into myself, and I just couldn’t get rid of that last little piece.” After seeing what these two non-surgical body contouring devices can do, Akerman was ready to share her experience with the world.

Celebrities Who Love CoolSculpting

Being in the spotlight 24/7 means that most celebrities don’t have time to recover from surgery, so many opt for treatments that require no downtime. One of the most popular procedures among celebrities is CoolSculpting. This non-surgical liposuction alternative is proven to freeze and ultimately destroy fat cells without having to go under the knife. Many celebrities are jumping on board with this incredible 100% non-invasive treatment and can’t get enough. Here are some celebs who have done CoolSculpting and shared their experience and love for the procedure.

1. Jennifer Aniston

  • This one may be a shocker to most, I mean, who would guess this seemingly flawless celeb would undergo a fat-freezing procedure. However, it’s important to note, no matter how in shape someone may look, many of us can find a pocket of stubborn fat we would love to get rid of.
  • Jennifer Aniston stated that she “loves lasers and non-invasive treatments.” Thanks to CoolSculpting, she was able to remove her stubborn pockets of fat without surgery, this is a significant win for this A-list celebrity who is always in the spotlight.

 2. Kris Jenner

  • Like her daughter, Khloe Kardashian, Kris Jenner has also opted for this non-invasive procedure. Featured on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Jenner brought along friend, Joyce Bonelli where they both got CoolSculpting. Kris Jenner, along with the whole Kardashian/Jenner clan, is a big fan of CoolSculpting.

3. Mariah Carey

  • In 2015, the beautiful and talented, Mariah Carey showed off her fabulous curves and noticeably slimmer figure at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Many wondered how the mom of 2 was able to slim down so fast. Carey explains how she was able to sculpt her body, saying, “I did it the conventional way of course – diet and CoolSculpting!”

4. Molly Sims

  • Molly Sims, supermodel and mother of three, decided to give CoolSculpting ago after struggling to lose fat after giving birth to her second child. Sims was super impressed with her CoolSculpting results and praised the zero downtime of CoolSculpting. She stated, “There was no downtime. It’s perfect for busy moms!”
  • Sims has been a huge advocate for CoolSculpting and has become a prominent spokesperson for the CoolSculpting brand. She wants to reach other women in the same situation as her because, as she did, they may also benefit from CoolSculpting.

As the popularity of CoolSculpting rises, many more celebrities are taking part in this non-invasive procedure. If you’re like us (or these celebs) and have tried everything from dieting to working out and still can’t seem to get that stubborn fat off, then CoolSculpting is the answer. As they say, ‘Stars they’re just like us!’  At BodySquad we currently have an amazing special going on for first-time patients. Fill out the form below to get on your way to your dream body!

What To Know If You’re Considering CoolSculpting

Getting rid of fat without surgery or downtime? It sounds too good to be true. However, with the revolutionary non-invasive treatment Coolsculpting, this is all possible. CoolSculpting has become one of the most popular bodysculpting procedures in the cosmetic world. Here are a few tips to know if you’re considering this non-invasive treatment.

Like many of us, there are areas on our body we are not too fond of, especially for us women who tend to store more fat than men (especially in the hips and thighs due to childbirth). So it can be particularly frustrating for women to lose weight, especially when diet and exercise can only do so much. In the past, many people turned to surgery to get rid of unwanted fat, however, with CoolSculpting there is now a way to get rid of this stubborn fat without having to go under the knife.

CoolSculpting has become the world’s leading non-invasive fat reduction treatment. CoolSculpting utilizes freezing temperatures to break down fat cells and ultimately destroy them. The fat cells are naturally excreted from the body over the next couple of months. You can expect to see up to a 25% reduction of fat cells in a given treatment area. One of the best things about Coolsculpting is that once those fat cells are destroyed, they are gone for good.

The results of a BodySquad patient 4 weeks post 1 CoolSculpting session

A typical CoolSculpting treatment session is about 35 minutes, however, there are specialty handpieces that can range from 45-75 minutes. During this time, people often watch TV, listen to music, or even work from their computer. During the treatment, a certified specialist will apply a gel-like substance to the targeted area. The provider will then apply the applicator (think of a vacuum nozzle) to the skin and suction will begin. You will start to feel the coolness set in; it’s normal to feel a bit of pulling and a lot of coldness on the treated area, but overall the treatment involves minimal pain.

It is important to note that CoolSculpting is not for everyone. This is not a treatment for obesity, rather it is a technique to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. At BodySquad we currently have an amazing special going on for first-time patients. Fill out the form below to get on your way to your dream body!

Let’s Talk About Cellulite

If you’re like 90% of women out there, you’ve probably had, have, or will have cellulite in your life. The fact of the matter is that cellulite exists, and no matter how fit or slender you are, it will still appear. As common as cellulite is, many people still do not know much about it, read on to learn more about cellulite, what causes it, and ways to prevent and get rid of it.

What is Cellulite?

  • Cellulite, which typically appears in the butt and thigh area, has a dimpled, lumpy appearance (think of the texture of an orange peel).
  • Cellulite is normal fat beneath your skin; it acquires that lumpy appearance because it pushes against connective tissue, making the skin above pucker. That is why no matter how slender you are, anyone can have it.
  • Women typically get cellulite over men, and this is because of two things. First off, women have less supportive connective tissue to keep it all in place. Second, they tend to have more fat around the thigh and hip area of the body.
  • 90% of women get cellulite, compared to 10% of men (aren’t we the lucky ones?)

What Causes Cellulite?

  • It is a common myth that toxins in the body cause cellulite, but this is not true. As stated above, cellulite occurs when underlying fat gets pushed against connective tissue.
  • Connective tissue (or collagen fibers) typically weaken due to lack of exercise and muscle tone, excess fat build-up, hormones, as well as poor circulation.
  • Many studies have concluded that genetics play a role in the development of cellulite. Genetic testing is available to confirm if you have the identified gene variant responsible for cellulite development. However, if other women in your family have cellulite, you will likely develop it as well.

How to Prevent Cellulite?

  • As women age, the body doesn’t produce as much estrogen, which is a vital hormone in the female body that aids in the movement of blood vessels flowing smoothly.
  • When the body lacks estrogen, this can translate to poor circulation as well as a decrease in new collagen, and the breakdown of older connective tissue.
  • There are many approaches you can take to decrease the likeliness of developing cellulite.
    • Exercise – by staying active and exercising, you will reduce fat and boost muscle tone in the body.
    • Diet – eat a healthy, well-balanced diet; try to avoid foods that are high in fat and refined sugars, as well as processed foods.
    • Stop Smoking (if you do) – research shows smoking cigarettes harms the formation of collagen, the main component of connective tissue, causing the development of cellulite.

How Can I Get Rid of Cellulite

  • Cellulite commonly appears on:
    • Hips
    • Thighs
    • Stomach
    • Butt
    • Breasts
  • While cellulite is not harmful, many people do not like the look of it on their bodies and will do anything to get rid of it.
  • A great tool to help combat cellulite is with the help of ThermiSmooth
    • ThermiSmooth is a revolutionary technology that can revitalize and smooth sagging skin and cellulite without surgery, pain, or downtime, giving you back the confidence you once knew.
    • ThermiSmooth utilizes radio frequency to gently heat the tissues and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in tighter and smoother skin.
    • ThermiSmooth is becoming one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the country, so what are you waiting for? Visit BodySquad to get your free body consultation, and your ThermiSmooth body specialist will provide a treatment plan tailored to your body, goals, and budget.

Tip for Staying Healthy During Quarantine

Due to COVID-19, many of us are spending much more time at home trying to find new ways to adjust to this new life. It can be hard to adapt to this new lifestyle of unfamiliar territory, especially when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle. Read on for tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle during a pandemic.

  1. Get Enough Sleep
    • While leading a healthy lifestyle, getting enough sleep can be just as crucial as your diet and exercise. Lack of sleep can be very detrimental to our overall health, so try and get at least 7 hours of sleep each night.
    • Research shows that missing as little as an hour and a half of sleep can have an impact on your alertness. So don’t try and get by with 5 hours of sleep because you will be sure to pay for it the next day.
    • When you sleep, your body rests, and your brain remains active and gets recharged, preparing for the following day. With a lack of sleep, your brain will have a hard time absorbing and recalling new information, so make sure to get sleep to keep that mind sharp!
    • Along with exercise and nutrition, getting quality sleep is one of the pillars of health. Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep will help improve your immune function as well. You cannot achieve optimal health without adequate sleep.

  1. Stay Hydrated
    • Our bodies depend on water to survive. Water accounts for about 60% of our bodies, and it’s recommended to drink eight, 8-ounce glasses of water per day. So it is crucial to stay hydrated, especially now during a time when there is a virus going around.
    • Drinking fluids helps maintain the function of every system in our body, such as the heart, brain, and muscles.
    • Bring your reusable water bottle everywhere you go (considering there are not many places to venture to, this shouldn’t be too hard)! By doing this, you will be sure to stay hydrated and know how much water you’re consuming.

  1. Get Active
    • It is essential to make sure you are staying active to warrant a healthy mind and body. Whether you go for a walk around the block, turn up the tunes and dance around, or do an online virtual class, there are many options to get active.
    • Yes, we know it is probably super tempting and a lot easier to binge your favorite series on the couch; however, this routine will negatively affect your health and well-being.
    • Be patient with yourself, there are days where it can be hard to motivate ourselves, but a little exercise is far better than no exercise at all. We are living in a challenging time, and any physical activity is a step in the right direction.
    • Below is a list of exercise classes and resources you can utilize to stay more active:
      1. Slash Fitness
        • If you’re ready to get your heart rate going, Slash fitness is the workout to do! Slash Fitness is a combination of traditional style lifting and high-intensity interval training. 1. Eat a Balanced Diet
    • Eating healthy can be hard when you don’t have time to cook; however, with all this extra time on (most) of our hands, there’s more time to focus on what we’re putting in our body.
    • It can be tempting to reach for your favorite salty snack because of boredom, and a few chips or pretzels are okay, but many people may have a hard time putting the bag down once it’s open. Too many of these processed foods can have a detrimental effect on our bodies.
    • Processed foods such as baked goods or frozen pizza contain a lot of simple carbohydrates that create a yo-yo effect on our blood sugar. Because these foods digest quickly, it can cause you to overeat.
    • Below are tips to help you eat a balanced diet:
      1. Make a daily meal plan
      2. Utilize food apps to stay connected
      3. Plan your grocery runs
      4. Load up on fruits, veggies, healthy fats, and proteins
      5. Plan and enjoy an occasional comfort food

4 Tips To Put Some Pep Back In Your Step During Quarantine

Having a hard time staying motivated?

It can be easy to fall into a slump and become unmotivated, especially now, when you are confined to your house all day. Many of us are trying to make the best of this temporary new way of life, but it can be challenging to continue to stay motivated. The world has presented us with new challenges, but we’re all in this together. We’re here to help you with some suggestions on how you can put that pep back in your step!

1. Stick to a Routine

    • During a time when there is so much uncertainty, it is so important to keep up with a schedule and routine to help you feel more in control and at ease.
    • Don’t let yourself fall into a pattern of sleeping in and staying up late. Stick to your morning routine – set your alarm for your usual time, shower, eat, and get dressed as if you were going out (you can dress down but make sure to get out of your pajamas).
    • Make sure you have a productive working space in your home. This space should mentally prepare you for work mode, whether it’s a seperate room, a desk set up in your living room, or a laptop at the end of the kitchen table. Try to make sure this space is seperate from where you would go to relax like your bedroom or couch.
    • Set your goals for the day, write them down, and put them into action! By writing down your goals, you are 42% more likely to achieve them.
    • Try and “normalize” your everyday routine as much as possible this will help you be as productive as possible!

2. Connect Digitally

    • Not being able to hang out with friends and family has been hard for most of us and can get lonely at times. Many people have developed new ways of staying connected, even while complying with public health guidelines.
    • Zoom is a video communications app that allows you to connect with others virtually! Whether you’re looking to join a live workout class or meet up with friends for a virtual happy hour, Zoom is there to help you stay in touch while social distancing.
    • If you’re looking for an easy and quick way to connect with others, FaceTime is a great option that can be done right from your phone. One of the great things about this option is that it supports up to 32 users at once (talk about a social distancing party).
    • It’s essential to stay connected socially, as this is one of the most important drivers of one’s well-being, especially now when we cannot see one another face to face.

connect digitally with friends and family during quarantine

3.  Check-In With Yourself

    • There is so much going on all around us, and it can be a lot to take in. It is essential to take a step back and check-in with yourself.
        • We came up with a checklist to help you make sure you are practicing self-care. Below is a list of daily questions to ask yourself:
          1. What emotions are you experiencing today?
          2. How will you put yourself first today?
          3. How are you moving your body today?
          4. Who are you connecting with virtually today?
          5. What are you grateful for today?
          6. How are you bettering yourself today?
        • Self-care is self-love, set aside as little as 15 minutes every day to answer and reflect on these questions.

4. Join an Exercise Challenge

    • It can be hard to motivate yourself to exercise when you’re stuck inside 24/7, but just because you don’t have fancy gym equipment doesn’t mean you can’t find ways to push yourself at home.
    • People are finding creative ways to work out and be accountable for each other. Check out this list of workout challenges you can join:
      1. Heather Robinson is a personal trainer, fitness cover model, and lover of all things health and wellness. She is offering a FREE 28 day at home workout challenge on Youtube. Check it out here.
      2. Run Club is a virtual run club where people set goals and keep one another accountable. Everyone that joins will set a run goal of how many miles they want to run in April. Check out all the details here.
      3. Instagrams 100 challenge is a great way to get in shape during this quarantine. Whether it be burpees, crunches, or push-ups, this challenge works by choosing an exercise of your choosing and doing 100 reps of it. Post a video of you doing the exercise of your choosing and tag your friends to do the same.
    • There are many ways you can still exercise during the quarantine. For more inspiration, Pinterest has many at-home exercises you can do from the comfort of your own home.

Remember, we’re all in this together, and we need to pick one another up!

What Happens to Your Muscles If You Don’t Continue Strengthening Them?

Strengthen Your Muscles, or You’ll Lose Them…

The CoolTone device is designed to bring your healthy lifestyle to the next level. It can be hard and time-consuming to get to the gym every day while also managing your day-to-day activities. CoolTone is a revolutionary new technology that can increase muscle mass. This means you will look toned, feel stronger, and look slimmer with less effort than ever before. Results are obtained through your initial 4-6 treatments within two weeks. To maintain the results achieved from CoolTone, it is crucial patients come in for ‘maintenance’ treatments.

Many people do not realize that when you stop using (or sculpting) your muscles, you will very quickly lose strength. The longer you wait, the harder it is to get back to those strong, lean looking muscles. According to experts, it varies depending on your age and fitness level, but it may be quicker than you think.

Your muscles will not disappear entirely, but there will be a noticeable decrease in strength power. The decrease will not be a lot at first, but the longer you wait, the more strength you will lose. Muscle mass (the size of your muscles) begins to diminish after about four-six weeks of inactivity. This is why it is essential to follow up with your BodySquad specialist after 30 days and map out a ‘maintenance plan’ so you do not lose those newly toned muscles!

I Tried Emsculpt, And Here’s What Happened (Part 1)

I’ve always had an issue with my stomach. Even at my thinnest in my 20s and “wedding weight” in my early 30s, I never (ever) felt confident baring my belly in a bikini. Fast forward to almost 20 years later at the age of 42, I do Pilates six days a week—and while I’m definitely in the best shape of my life, I still see room for abdominal improvement. When Emsculpt received FDA clearance last year I immediately became obsessed, and as it turns out I’m the ideal candidate.

After about 1,000 attempts, this is the most flattering “before” photo I took.

The first treatment of its kind, Emsculpt uses HIFEM (high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy) to strengthen abdominal muscles (as well as the buttocks, upper arms, thighs and beyond) and visibly enhance muscle tone—along with a proven reduction in overlying fat. So, when I had a chance to try it at Body Squad (the first body-sculpting-only aesthetic center in Florida created by Dr. Janet Allenby of Allenby Dermatology in Delray Beach, Florida—with more locations to come), I was all over it.

Appointment number-one started with the requisite “before” photos wearing a paper bra and panties, which was definitely the most uncomfortable five minutes of my entire Emsculpt experience. (I’m so used to “sucking it in” that I don’t respond well when told to “relax” my abs—it’s not pretty.) I was also weighed, which is an important part of the “before”—and this is the driving force that will keep me dedicated to my current fitness and diet regimen so I can see the real results after 12 weeks. Yes, I have to wait three months to see the “final” results (although many patients see improvement in muscle tone within a month after completing four treatments.)

I then removed all of my jewelry (major props to Body Squad for providing a screwdriver for the Cartier Love bracelets that are de rigueur in Boca—see above), tucked my phone away and got comfy in a robe under a blanket before the Emsculpt device was strapped to my abdomen with a Velcro belt.

With HGTV to keep me occupied for the next 30 minutes, the treatment began. I found the sensation to be so peculiar that I couldn’t stop laughing for at least the first five minutes. My provider Nadja gradually increased the intensity as I got accustomed to the completely bizarre feeling—which I can liken to childbirth contractions without the actual pain, or the world’s strongest sit-up. The waves of energy—which promote such deep contractions that your legs involuntarily lift—are broken up by “tapping” phases to eliminate the build-up of lactic acid so you don’t feel any soreness after treatment. Considering 30 minutes of Emsculpt simulates the effects of 20,000 sit-ups, this is a good thing.

I got up to 85% during my first treatment, and although I was a little sweaty, I felt great when I was done and didn’t feel any side effects afterwards. Nadja told me I may feel a bit fatigued later in the day, but I’m always tired thanks to working full-time and managing a household with a 10-year-old son, and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. The next day, I felt the slightest tinge of soreness going up the middle of my abs. This is likely because I experienced diastasis (a separation of my abdominal muscles) thanks to carrying an 8.5-pound baby more than a week beyond term. I took a Pilates class that was super-ab-heavy the next day, and I honestly felt stronger already. Two days later my abs definitely felt sore, but I’m pretty sure it was from my class the day before and not the treatment. When I inspected my abs in the mirror, was I imagining that my tummy looked more toned? (Maybe, maybe not.)

En route to my second Emsculpt session I was really wishing I was headed to a massage since I’m not a big fan of Mondays and I was exhausted after an all-weekend travel lacrosse tournament with my son. But, Nadja cranked up the intensity to 100% and the treatment went by so fast thanks to alternating between The View and several magazines within arm’s reach. I felt great afterwards and went on with my day after scheduling treatment number-three for a few days later after my son’s year-end class party. (“Sorry, honey… I have to leave to get my stomach done!”)

This time I was treated by Mandy, and when she asked how I was doing/feeling I said great, but I felt a little bloated because I thought I was getting my period. She told me that patients with less fat sometimes get a little swollen during the series of Emsculpt treatments and I was surprised to learn this. (I’ve never read this anywhere—and I’ve done my fair share of research.) She emphasized that I really need to give it 12 weeks to see the final results, and that three months after she completed her treatments, it was like she woke up one morning and was ripped. Music to my ears! I told her to crank it up to 100% and I watched Pickler & Ben, which was awesome because it was all animals doing tricks. It’s been more than a decade since I watched daytime TV, and this might have been the best 30 minutes of my week.

Me giggling with the machine at 100%.

I squeezed in this Sunday treatment before meeting my husband and son for lunch on the beach (it was Memorial Day weekend after all), and everything went as I’ve come to expect. This was my first treatment with Briana, and when she asked how I was feeling I told her about my last conversation with Mandy, who said I might see bloating before I see toning. She confirmed this, added that that my next period might be a bit more intense. (Thanks for the heads up.) All went as expected, but the craziest part was making my 12-week post-treatment appointment for “after” photos and realizing that will be my son’s first week back at school after being away at camp for seven weeks. (Slight buzzkill, considering school hadn’t yet ended.) So basically, now I just have to wait—and I’m going to be extra diligent about sticking to my current fitness and diet routine so I can really see what Emsculpt accomplishes.

Yes, I understand that I need to wait three months to see the final Emsculpt results, but I already feel an increase in ab strength. Whether it’s lifting my upper body a little bit higher when doing “The Hundred” at Pilates or being able to lift and lower my legs with more control during the traditional ab series, I’ve definitely noticed improvement. Appearance-wise, I think I may see enhanced muscle definition—but at the very least I feel confident enough to pack a bikini for our family trip to the Bahamas next week—although I can’t guarantee I’ll wear it.

Stay tuned for my follow-up story (including before-and-afters!) in August!
